Cathy grew up in Shortland and returned to Shortland Parish
and rejoined the music liturgy in 2002. This gave the existing
group the ability to add harmony and a stronger
guitar line to their music. In the 'missing years' Cathy received vocal
training and sang professionally in local bands, but her songwriting
talent was not explored during this period of her life. However, during
the year when Shortland Parish Church celebrated its 40th anniversary,
and all three of the Evensounds members were also 40, the idea of
recording favorite hymns 'before we get too old' started to take shape.
Cathy then began to write some hymns with the idea of adding these to
the recording. Within a year, there were enough to make the album
which has become 'Coming Home'.
Michael showed great talent for music even as a young child, learning
the guitar and piano, but finding his 'niche' as back up organist for
weekend Masses from the age of 12. With minimal formal training,
Michael developed a wonderful feeling for playing sacred music.
Michael played the keyboards for the recording of this album but is most
at home on the piano, which he incorporates into many of the hymns
played in the Parish, in addition to the faithful organ.
